ARBEQUINA AS-1
General Overview of the Variety
Denomination and synonymy: 

The Arbequina receives this denomination due to its area of origin, probably close to the town of Arbeca (Lleida, Spain). The Arbequí, Arbequín and Blancal denominations are also found in the zone. The Arbequina AS-1 is a selection of the ARBEQUINA variety which is very productive and totally adapted to the super-intensive system.o.

Cultivation area: 

It is the most important variety in Catalonia, where it occupies more than 55,000 hectares. It has also spread to the rest of Spain, especially in Andalusia. It is the variety of reference in the new super-intensive plantations and for this reason, besides in Spain, it has been planted in many other countries: France, USA, Chile, Portugal, Italy, Tunisia, Morocco, Australia, Argentina…

Agronomic and commercial considerations: 

Low vitality, open canopy and average-high crown density. It is considered to be self-fertile. Early entry into production and high and constant productivity. Fat content is high and the quality of its oil is excellent, although not very stable. It has a high rooting capacity.

Morphological characters
Leaf: 

Small, short and average width, elliptical-spear shaped

Fruit: 

Black when ripe. Small with a symmetric spherical shape. The apex is round and there is no stalk. The maximum transversal section is circular and slightly placed to the base. Average pulp / pit ratio.

Pit: 

Oval-shaped and symmetric. Rough surface with seven to ten fibrovascular grooves grouped together at the suture. The base and apex are round. The latter has mucron. The maximum transversal section is circular and centered.

ARBOSANA I-43
General Overview of the Variety
Denomination and synonymy: 

Originally from Penedès, it probably received its name from the Tarragona town of L’Arboç.

Cultivation area: 

It is currently being spread throughout its zone of origin. Since it is one of the varieties used on super-intensive plantations, it is being planted in many countries on several continents.

Agronomic and commercial considerations: 

A variety with a very high and constant productivity and very early entry into production. Low vitality, very attractive for intensive cultivations. Late ripening season. Average oil content (19-20%), although it is highly appreciated due to its organoleptic characteristics. It has a high rooting capacity.

KORONEIKI
General Overview of the Variety
Denomination and synonymy: 

 

A variety from Greece, where it is also known as Koroni, Kritikia, Ladolia and Psylolia.

Cultivation area: 

Occupies 50-60% of the olive-growing surface area in its country of origin. Since it is one of the varieties used on super-intensive plantations, it is also being planted in many other countries on several continents.

Agronomic and commercial considerations: 

Average vitality and open canopy, very high productivity, fat content around 20%, excellent oil quality and very stable. Very early entry into production. A variety of interest for super- intensive plantations.

SIKITITA
General Overview of the Variety
Denomination and synonymy: 

 

New olive variety selected for high density orchards. Obtained by researchers at Cordoba University and the Institute Andaluz de Investigación y Formación Agraria (IFAPA) within an olive breeding program that both institutions have been carrying out since 1991. It is originated from hybridization between 'Picual' (female parental) and 'Arbequina' (male parental), the two varieties more widely spread in the Spanish olive groves.

Cultivation area: 

The variety has been protected in the European Union, Chile, Argentina, Mexico, United States (with the denomination 'Chiquitita'), South Africa, Australia, Tunis, Morocco and Turkey.

Agronomic and commercial considerations: 

 

Its main characteristics are: very low vigour, compact canopy and weeping shape that makes its canopy volume about 60-70% referred to Arbequina´s. These characteristics make this variety very adequate to be used in plantations in hedge, where number of trees reach 2000 olive trees/ha. In the case of 'Sikitita', due to its smallest vigour, planting spaces of 3,5 x 1,25 m. can be used.

It has an early entry in production and high productivity, good oil yield content and extractability. Its oil expresses very good organoleptic characteristics and is characterized by being fruity and sweet with bitterness and piquant quite balanced.

General Overview of the Variety
Denomination and synonymy: 

The new olive variety Vas One was obtained by Genetic Program of VIVAI ATILIO SONNOLI in Uzzano (PT) – ITALY.

Cultivation area: 

The variety has been protected in the European Union, Chile, United States, Tunis and Morocco.

Agronomic and commercial considerations: 

Variety very adapted for the high density system. It has an optimum vegetative development and it is adequate for the formation in central axis. Very adequate for total mechanization of the plantation with fruit removal at harvest higher than 90%. 

Variety very interesting for the oil quality. Oil adequate for any type of blend or as single variety for gourmet and high quality foods.
