2000. TUNISIA, MAJOR DYNAMISM FROM LOCAL AGRICULTURE

In the year 2000, after having followed the first plantations in Spain for several years, the local company SADIRA understood that it was time to make some decisions. Tunisia is the leading African olive oil producer and the second country in the world in planted surface area. Olive tree cultivation in Tunisia is too important not to consider such important cultivation alternatives. SADIRA planted the first 25 ha plantation on its own estate, and from then on became dedicated to promoting these plantations in the country. This evolution is very important given that it is a country where labor is still available and very cheap. Yet, the local producers themselves feel that this situation will be threatened in the future and prefer to use the super-intensive system in order to alleviate this variable, among others.
